Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy places emphasis on where painful feelings and beliefs that a person has, particularly where painful emotions and maladaptive behaviour are sabotaging a full experience of life. In other words, Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy teaches people how to over come the past by focusing on the present. It also shows how to implement healthy and realistic alternatives to current problematic psychological patterns. 
Simply speaking, hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, or trance, for a therapeutic endpoint. This means that people are not treated with hypnosis but are treated in hypnosis. Hypnotism is the study of suggestion with or without the presence of hypnosis, while hypnotherapy is a form of therapy in which the use of hypnotism constitutes the core of the treatment.

All hypnotic states are characterised by a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation, which individuals allow themselves to enter so that desired beneficial suggestions may be given directly to the part of the mind known as the subconscious, which holds our emotions, habits and behaviours receptive to therapy. 

Being in a trance state is very similar to daydreaming or the experience we have whilst driving down a road and not remembering how you got to your destination.  Although you were perfectly competent, adjusting to road conditions, you had no recollection of your journey, in other words your conscious mind was 'switched off'.

  • Nobody can ever be hypnotised against their will and even when hypnotised, people still remain in complete control of any suggestions given.
  • The whole object of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is to take back the control that has been lost and which has therefore resulted in the symptom or problem.

The subconscious mind is the source of many of our problems and self images. Our beliefs, habits and behaviours are stored as information, very similar to data on a computer. It is also the source of our emotions and therefore directs nearly all of our behaviour. The subconscious is a tremendous reservoir of our unrecognised strengths and knowledge.
